Southern Hami-Zhengzhou ±800kV UHVDC Transmission Project

Description

C-EPRI secured an order to provide thyristor valves and cooling system for Southern Hami-Zhengzhou ±800kV UHVDC transmission project on Sept. 17 2012. 

Southern Hami-Zhengzhou Project is designed to have a transmission capacity of 8 GW, setting up a new world record. Its 2,210-km-long transmission line goes through the vast region of Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Henan. The project possesses important strategic significance and political influence as the key projects to serve China's Western Development Program, and transmit the electricity from Xinjiang to the rest parts of the country. It becomes the Silk Road of Electricity to connect the western frontier with the central plains with greatly enhanced optimal allocation in a wide range. By then, coal is transported by air cargo and electricity is available throughout the country. As for environmental benefits, upon its construction, it can transmit power of 48 TWh to central China every year, equivalent to 22.1 million tons of coal, reducing 317 thousand tons of sulfur dioxide emission and 267 thousand tons of nitrogen oxides emission. It can effectively ease the pressure of air pollution, and save a lot of land resources. 

C-EPRI have designed, supplied and commissioned converter valves with cooling system for Southern Hami station’s pole 1. Compare with Jinping-Sunan ±800kV UHVDC transmission project, Southern Hami-Zhengzhou project features even higher engineering technical parameters in terms of transmission capacity and DC current.  C-EPRI’s upgraded A5000 UHVDC converter valve, rated at ±800kV/5000A was adopted in this project.
